Dr. Souradet Shaw is a social epidemiologist with expertise in quantitative methodology, focusing on understanding the contribution of context to risk of, and vulnerability to, sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections (STBBIs), including HIV. Dr. Shaw has 20 years of public health experience, and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, and is the Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Program Science and Global Public Health, located at the Institute for Global Public Health at the University of Manitoba. His interests include analysis of routine administrative healthcare data, public health monitoring and surveillance, network and geographic analysis, quantitative techniques, and understanding context in epidemiology. Although Dr. Shaw’s work spans India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Colombia, he has a keen interest in understanding the drivers of HIV/STBBI epidemiology in the Canadian prairie provinces, and how the unique histories and context of individuals contribute to risk and vulnerability to HIV/STBBIs. Dr. Shaw strives to understand how community and scientific knowledge can strengthen public health responses to HIV/STBBIs.
