CAHR also thanks conference co-chairs – Dr. Marie-Louise Vachon (Clinical professor, Division of Infectious Diseases at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de l’Université Laval (CHUL) du Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec (CHU de Québec)) and Dr. Gary Kobinger (Professor and Director of the Infectious Disease Research Centre at the Université Laval) – for their leadership at this difficult time.
Originally slated to take place in Quebec City, after careful deliberation and consideration, the CAHR Board of Directors made the difficult decision in early March 2020 to cancel the on-site portion of the Conference and proceed with the preparation of an online version of the event.
While this was disappointing news to our members and the outstanding members of the CAHR 2020 Scientific Committee, this decision rested on the evolving COVID-19 outbreak which would have impacted the health and safety of CAHR members and Conference delegates, pulled leading infectious disease professionals away from their workplaces at a time of need, and contributed to the potential spread of the virus.
While the meeting took place virtually, CAHR’s goal remained the same: share the latest scientific advances in the field, learn from one another’s expertise, and develop new ways to treat and prevent HIV.
