2019 CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards

The Canadian Association for HIV Research (CAHR) and the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) are pleased to announce the 2019 winners of the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards.

These awards are bestowed annually to mid-career researchers who while at the prime of their careers have achieved a track record of excellence and demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of those living with HIV with or at risk.

The 2019 winners of the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards are:

  • Basic Sciences: Blake Ball (National Laboratory for HIV Immunology / National HIV & Retrovirology Laboratories / JC Wilt Infectious Disease Research Center / Public Health Agency of Canada)
  • Clinical Sciences: Kelly O’Brien (University of Toronto)
  • Epidemiology-Public Health: Sharmistha Mishra (St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto)
  • Social Sciences: Trevor Hart (Ryerson University)
  • Community-Based Research: Melanie Lee (on behalf of the 33 PRAs of CHIWOS)

About CAHR

With a membership of more than 1,000 researchers and others interested in HIV research, the Canadian Association for HIV Research (CAHR) is the leading organization of HIV/AIDS researchers in Canada. CAHR is the organizing body for the Annual Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research (CAHR Conference).

CAHR encourages Canadian researchers to be leaders in knowledge translation and to effectively respond both to the Canadian and global HIV/AIDS epidemics. Since its founding in 1991, CAHR has promoted excellence in HIV research, including mentorship and career development of investigators entering the field.

CAHR fosters collaboration and co-operation among HIV research communities, including basic, clinical and social sciences, epidemiology and public health. CAHR also engages people living with HIV/AIDS and AIDS service organizations in ongoing dialogue and information exchange to ensure that HIV/AIDS research remains responsive to the epidemic and its stakeholders.
