Dr. Viviane Dias Lima
Treasurer
Dr. Viviane Lima is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of British Columbia and a Senior Scientist serving as the Head of Modelling and Forecasting at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. She leads the EMBARC team, a multidisciplinary group that brings together expertise in quantitative population health, data science, and infectious disease research to address complex questions in HIV and broader public health.
Dr. Lima directs a comprehensive research programme focused on advancing prevention strategies, improving treatment responses, and understanding long-term health trajectories for people living with HIV. Her work also encompasses bacterial sexually transmitted infections, antimicrobial resistance, lung cancer risk among people living with HIV, and the role of social and structural determinants across the life course. Within EMBARC, she supervises and mentors a diverse team of researchers and graduate students, guiding projects that leverage provincial administrative data, population-based cohorts, and advanced analytical and modelling frameworks. Her programme is strongly policy-oriented and designed to inform provincial and global strategies to strengthen patient care, advance elimination efforts, and support evidence-based health system planning.
