This note is for students wishing to apply for one of these awards. As was mentioned above, the application must be submitted through one of the designated STIHR Training Centres.

For your information, there are two HIV-specific STIHR Training Centres in Canada. They are:

    U. Manitoba, Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious diseases
    Contact Dr. Keith Fowke: Fowkekr@cc.umanitoba.ca

    Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN)
    contact Sean.Rourke@ohtn.on.ca

Applicants from anywhere in Canada may contact one of the above centres and submit your application through that centre.

Also, you will notice in the instructions that each applicant is requested to submit a description of how the award will enhance the proposed program of training. —I want to explain that what we’re looking for there is a one or two page description of the research work the student plans to undertake during this studentship plus a brief description of the program of training that will be undertaken, and how the award will enhance the research work of the student’s sponsoring institution. (If there are some lengthy specifics (e.g., a study summary), you should add that as an attachment. No limit has been set to the amount of supporting material that can be attached. However, it is best to only submit information that is directly relevant to the application.)
