CAHR new Master’s level scholarships – Deadline Approaching

2012-01-24

Applications are still being accepted for CAHR’s 2012 Master’s Level Scholarships, which are being offered in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Of the four new scholarships, there will be one in each of the following research tracks: (1) Basic Science, (2) Clinical Science, (3) Social Science, and (4) Epidemiology/Public Health. The purpose of this program is to provide special recognition and support to students who are planning a career in HIV/AIDS research. The amount of each award is be $17,500 and is available for one year only.

Applicants must apply through the CIHR’s Researchnet (See the link below). The deadline is February 1, 2012. The scholarship must be held in Canada and the primary research focus must be in HIV/AIDS. The applicant must indicate which of the four research tracks he/she is applying for. Projects that indicate a multidisciplinary approach should indicate a primary and a secondary track. The successful applicants will be notified in late spring, and the scholarship term will begin September 1, 2012.

As a priority of our organization, The Canadian Association of HIV Research (CAHR) is dedicated to supporting the training of Canadian students who are committed to pursuing a career in HIV research. Applicants for this award must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program and planning to conduct research that is relevant to CAHR’s mission.

CAHR does not have stated research priorities. The adjudication will favour applicants with high potential for developing into future HIV research leaders. Priority areas for adjudication are: (i) the achievements, characteristics and abilities of the applicant, (ii) the quality and potential impact of the proposed research project, and (iii) the strength of the proposed training environment (including the program and supervisor).
